Finally, Issue no. 3 of Volume 20 of the Norwegian textile Letter is available online. It is a celebration of the hard work put in by editors and authors through the past twenty years. Enjoy all the years of the NTL, now available in the Archive portion of the site. Read my editors note and apology for the delay of this issue.
This issue is also a celebration of rya! If you are in Minnesota this summer, there are a remarkable number of rya-related activities this summer. This issue includes articles about the current exhibits at the American Swedish Institute. Jan Mostrom is teaching a rya class at the Weavers Guild this summer, in collaboration with the American Swedish Institute. The first class took place last week, and the second, sold-out, class begins on August 11.
On National Night Out, August 5th, the Weavers Guild will participate in the celebration at the American Swedish Institute. A rya will be woven by visitors, children and adults, with fabric strips on chicken wire. This is a grand experiment, but my informal focus groups of visitors to the Weavers Guild make me think it will be interesting. Here, seven-and-a-half year old twins Lucy and Marigny focus on their tying.
