Danskbrogd: The Focus Shifts to the Loom

small=danskBy Robbie LaFleur

In this second issue of the Norwegian Textile Letter devoted to danskbrogd, the focus shifts from  historical design aspects to the techniques to weaving.

Thanks to the meticulous documentation of the Danskbragd Study Group of the mid-1990s, we can benefit from their experiences and helpful hints to one another.  Jan Mostrom deserves many thanks for her management of the group and for lending the materials to me for scanning.

In like manner, the Krokbragd Study Group of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota Scandinavian Weavers Study Group kept wonderful project records.  From that notebook, we have many more danskbrogd pieces to study.

Jan Mostrom distilled her knowledge in an article specially written for this issue.

In all, these articles will help guide any weavers who would like to give danskbrogd a try.  I am starting my own exploration.  If this gets you going on a danskbrogd piece, please send me a photo and a description of your experiences.  I will feature a danskbrogd gallery in a future issue.
